Okay, so, I was messing around with this idea of making a, like, a decision-making tool. I started by grabbing a ball I had lying around. It’s just a regular ball, nothing special, but I thought, “Hey, this could be cool.” I decided to use it as the main thing in my project because, you know, it’s round and all, which kinda represents, like, everything being connected and complete.
I began writing down some ideas on how to make this thing work. I needed some kind of a system, so I looked up some stuff and found these terms like “Integration Services” and “Master Data Services.” These seemed relevant ’cause I gotta somehow integrate, uh, data into this, and it has to be organized, right?
Then I remembered those eight-ball things that are supposed to tell your fortune. So I thought, “What if I make it like that?” The number 8 is kinda like fate, so maybe my tool could be some sort of “destiny” thing. I felt I was on to something, so I kept pushing forward.

- I started sketching some designs, thinking about how to actually present the choices.
- I numbered some sections on the ball, just like a real eight-ball, where the answers would pop up.
- I used some colors, black mostly, because it looks more, you know, mystical, and I used a couple of other colors to make it less boring.
I also did some digging on the internet, reading articles from different places. There was this bit from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which I didn’t really use, but it was there. I also stumbled upon something about a note called “2bis” but honestly, I have no clue what that’s about, so I skipped it.
There was another thing about music notes, like “G-sharp” and “A.” I guess it’s cool if you’re into music, but it didn’t really fit into what I was doing, so I just moved on. I did find a definition for “ball” though, just to make sure I wasn’t completely off track. It basically said it’s a round thing you play with, which, yeah, that’s what I’m using.
Putting It All Together
I spent a few days tweaking the design, and testing different ways to input questions and get answers. It was a lot of trial and error. Sometimes the answers were just nonsense, but I kept at it.
There was also this random bit about a pitcher getting sick and needing a replacement. Not sure how that’s connected, but it popped up in my notes, so here it is. It reminds me of those times when you’re working on something, and you need to find an alternative quickly. That’s basically what I did with this project a few times, just had to come up with another plan on the spot when something didn’t go as I wanted.
Finally, after many hours, I had something that kinda worked. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start. You ask it a question, give it a shake or whatever, and it gives you an answer. It’s pretty simple, but I think it’s kind of neat. I’m calling it “hexagram 2” for now, but I might change it later. I showed it to a few friends, and they thought it was cool, though some of the answers it gave were a bit weird. But hey, it’s a work in progress, right?
