Okay, so today I’m gonna spill the tea on my little experiment with the Ten of Cups. I’ve been trying to dig deeper into what the cards really mean, y’know? Not just the textbook definition, but like, the feeling of them.
I started by just staring at the card. Seriously. The Rider-Waite version, with the happy family and the rainbow of cups. I wanted to get past the “happy family” image and figure out what that happiness felt like.
Then, I did a guided meditation. I found one on YouTube that was all about connecting with your inner child and imagining a place where you feel completely safe and loved. Corny, I know, but stick with me.

Here’s where it got interesting: In my meditation, the “safe place” I imagined wasn’t a physical location. It was a feeling. It was the feeling of being completely accepted and understood by the people around me. It wasn’t just romantic love, or family love, but this feeling of belonging to a community.
- I focused on that feeling of acceptance.
- I tried to really feel it in my body. Where did it resonate? For me, it was in my chest, like a warm, expanding sensation.
- Then, I thought about the Ten of Cups again, and suddenly, it clicked.
The Ten of Cups isn’t just about a perfect family unit. It’s about that feeling of profound contentment and belonging that comes from genuine connection with others. It’s about feeling like you’re part of something bigger than yourself, and that you’re loved and supported for who you are.
After the meditation, I grabbed my journal and started writing. I jotted down all the moments in my life where I’ve felt that Ten of Cups feeling. It wasn’t always during big, celebratory occasions. Sometimes it was during small, everyday moments – laughing with friends over a shared joke, volunteering at a local shelter, or even just getting a hug from my mom.
And then I started applying this to my readings. When the Ten of Cups came up, I didn’t just say, “Oh, happy family!” I started asking deeper questions: What does belonging mean to you? Where do you feel most accepted? What can you do to cultivate more connection and community in your life?
The result? My readings have become way more nuanced and meaningful. People actually connect with the message, because it’s not just about generic happiness, but about their own unique experience of connection and belonging.

So, yeah, that’s my Ten of Cups experiment. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s definitely helped me to understand the card on a deeper level. Give it a try yourself! Meditate, journal, and really try to feel the essence of the card. You might be surprised by what you discover.
I reckon this approach could work with other cards too, and maybe I’ll explore that next time.
