Okay, so today I messed around with the numbers 17 and 42. It sounds random, I know, but I had this idea and just had to try it out.
The Start
I started by just staring at the numbers. 17… 42… What could I do with them? My first thought was to add them up. You know, keep it simple.
So, I grabbed my phone and used its calculator. 17 + 42 = 59. Okay, that’s something, I guess, I did not think so at first.

Getting a Bit Fancier
Then, I thought, “Why not try multiplying them?” I was getting into it now.
I punched in 17 x 42 into the calculator, and boom! 714. Alright, a bigger number. Feeling a bit more interesting, I think I can do more.
Trying Something Different
I had a random thought: what if I divided them? I decided to divide the bigger number by the smaller one.
So, 42 / 17. The calculator showed me something like 2.470588… I think that is a long decimal, not very pretty, but it’s something.
Going Deeper (Kind Of)
I’m no math whiz, but I remembered something about percentages. I thought, “What’s 17% of 42?” Seemed like a fun thing to try.
Back to the calculator, I typed 42, finded the percent button, and input 17. Hit equals, and I got 7.14. Hey, that’s part of the multiplication answer! I felt that is very cool.
Mixing It Up
Now, I was just playing around. I decided to subtract the numbers. First, 42 – 17 = 25. Then, just for kicks, 17 – 42 = -25. Of course, I knew it would be negative, and that I thought made sense.
One Last Thing
Finally, I thought, “Let’s see what these numbers look like as a fraction.”
I wrote down 17/42. It doesn’t simplify, but it’s a fraction! I stared that for a while.
So, that was my little adventure with 17 and 42. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking, but it was fun to just play with numbers and see what I could do. I’ve recorded all my steps and results, and I think it is pretty good enough for today’s little adventure.
