Okay, folks, let’s dive into something that’s been kicking my butt for a while: figuring out this whole Sade Sati business, specifically how your birth Rasi and Saturn Rasi play into the different phases. I’m no astrologer, just a regular guy trying to make sense of it all, and documenting the confusing adventure.
So, I started, like most people probably do, completely clueless. I’d heard about Sade Sati – that dreaded 7.5-year period of Saturn’s influence – but the details were fuzzy. I knew it had something to do with the Moon’s position in your birth chart (your Rasi), but that was about it.
First things first, I pulled up my birth chart. It took a few tries to find a site I understood, some of them are pretty cryptic, but I found it. I located my Moon sign. That’s my birth Rasi. Easy enough, right? Wrong!

Then came the hard part: figuring out my Saturn Rasi. This is where Saturn was hanging out when I was born. I went back to the birth chart. I looked for the symbol for Saturn (it looks a bit like a stylized ‘h’ with a cross on top, it turned out). I found that too. Okay, two pieces of the puzzle down.
Now, the “different phases” part is where things got really messy. I read a bunch of articles, and honestly, most of them were confusing. Some talked about three phases, some about sub-periods… it was a headache. What I think I understood is that Sade Sati starts when Saturn is one sign before your Moon Rasi, peaks when it’s in your Moon Rasi, and ends when it’s one sign after.
- Phase 1 (Rising): Saturn is in the sign before your Moon Rasi. This is supposed to be the start of the challenges. I tried to relate this back to my own life, looking at when Saturn would have been in that position. Tough to say for sure if things lined up.
- Phase 2 (Peak): Saturn is in your Moon Rasi. Supposedly the most intense period. Again, I tried to map this to my own timeline. I felt I did have a terrible experience.
- Phase 3 (Setting): Saturn is in the sign after your Moon Rasi. Things are supposed to be easing up. Did they? It is hard to judge!
My Big ‘Aha!’ (Maybe)
The real head-scratcher was figuring out how long each phase lasts, and when they’d happen. I eventually figured out that Saturn spends about 2.5 years in each sign. So, 2.5 years before, 2.5 years during, and 2.5 years after your Moon Rasi. That’s the 7.5 years. I grabbed a pen and paper, did some rough calculations based on my birth date and the current position of Saturn, and tried to estimate when my Sade Sati periods might have been or will be. But it felt very rough and theoretical. I had a headahce after this caculation, and the results were confusing.
Honestly, I’m still not 100% sure I’ve got it all right. This is a work in progress, and I’m still learning. It’s a lot of tracking down information, piecing things together, and trying to make sense of it all. It feels like a combination of detective work and amateur astrology, I did them all. I am still not sure I am right. But, I am glad I am doing it, becuase it is interesting, and it is helpful to know these phases, I hope this journey is helpful for you as well.
