Okay, so today I’m going to talk about my experience with Hexagram 19. It’s called “Lin” in Chinese, which roughly translates to “Approach” or “Overlooking”.
I started my day like any other, but I had this nagging feeling that I should consult the I Ching. I’ve been playing around with it for a while now, just as a way to reflect and get some perspective. I usually just think of a question or situation, then toss three coins six times to build the hexagram.
This time, I was a little more formal about it. I’ve got this little notebook where I write down the date, the question I’m pondering, and the resulting hexagram. I try to be in a calm, clear place when I consult the I Ching. So I lit a candle, took a few deep breaths, and focused on a general question about my current path.

After getting my hexagram, I went straight to my favorite I Ching book. It’s a bit worn out, but it has some pretty straightforward interpretations. Hexagram 19, Lin, is made up of the trigrams for Earth over Lake. The book talked about a time of growth and progress, like spring approaching after winter. But, it also cautioned about the need to be mindful and not get ahead of myself.
- Earth over Lake: This combination suggests nourishment and potential. The earth provides, and the lake receives.
- Time of Approach: Things are moving in the right direction, but it’s important to stay grounded.
- Be Mindful of Progress: Don’t rush things. Success comes from steady, consistent effort.
I spent some time reflecting on how this applied to my life. I’ve been feeling pretty good about things lately, with some projects moving forward nicely. But there’s also that temptation to take on too much, to try to do everything at once. This reading reminded me to stay focused on the present and to appreciate the small steps.
I decided to write down some thoughts in my journal, just to process the reading a bit more. And then I went about my day, feeling a little more centered and aware. It’s not about predicting the future or anything like that. For me, it’s more about gaining a different perspective and staying mindful of the journey.
Overall, it was a good reminder to keep things in perspective. Progress is great, but it’s important to enjoy the process and not get lost in the hustle. That’s what Hexagram 19, Lin, taught me today.
Hope someone might find my experience interesting! I will try to share more about my daily life with you guys.
