Okay, so the other day I was feeling like my tarot deck was a bit… off. Like the readings weren’t as clear as they usually are. I’ve heard about cleansing decks with sage, so I figured, why not give it a shot? I’m all about trying new things, especially if they involve good vibes.
Getting Started
First, I grabbed my sage bundle. I got this one from a local metaphysical shop a while back – it’s pretty big and smells amazing. I also made sure I had a fire-safe dish (a simple ceramic bowl works great) and my lighter. Safety first, you know?
The Cleansing Process
I opened a window in my room first, gotta let that stagnant energy out. Then, I carefully lit the end of the sage bundle. It took a few seconds to catch, and then it started smoking – that thick, fragrant smoke. I let it burn for a bit to get a good amount of smoke going.

Next, I held my tarot deck in one hand and the smoking sage in the other. I slowly passed the deck through the smoke, making sure to get the front, back, and all the edges. I did this several times, visualizing any negativity or stuck energy just dissolving away with the smoke.
While I was doing this, I kind of just focused on my intention. I wasn’t saying any specific prayers or anything, just thinking about clearing out the old and making way for fresh, clear energy. Feeling it, ya’ll.
- Fan the smoke.
- Visualize the negative energy.
- Focus on the clean and fresh.
Finishing Up
Once I felt like the deck had been thoroughly smoked (it took maybe a minute or two), I gently blew out the sage bundle and placed it in the fire-safe dish to cool down completely. I left the window open for a while longer to let the room air out.
Honestly, after that, the deck just felt different. Lighter, somehow. I did a quick reading afterward, and it felt way more clear and connected. Placebo effect? Maybe. But I’m a believer! I’ll definitely be doing this again whenever my deck feels a bit “cloudy.”
