Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into tarot lately, and one thing that really caught my eye was the Golden Dawn’s planetary correspondences. It’s like, whoa, there’s a whole other layer of meaning here! I wanted to see it for myself, so I started mapping it out.
First, I grabbed my trusty Rider-Waite deck – gotta have the classics, right? Then I laid out all the Major Arcana cards. I’ve been using them for a while, but seeing them all together like this was kinda cool.
Next, I dug up my old Golden Dawn notes. It’s all pretty dense, but I needed that planetary info. Basically, they assign a planet to each of the Major Arcana cards, and it changes the vibe of the card, you know?

Mapping the Correspondences
I started matching things up. It took a bit of back-and-forth, checking my notes, and double-checking online, just to make sure I wasn’t messing anything up.
For example:
- The Magician: Mercury. Makes sense, right? Quick-witted, communication, all that.
- The High Priestess: The Moon. Mysterious, intuitive, hidden stuff.
- The Empress: Venus. Love, beauty, abundance – classic Venus stuff.
- And it goes on like that…
After that, I needed to see it in action! I spent few days. I pulled a few cards each day, but instead of just thinking about the usual meanings, I tried to factor in the planetary influence. It was like, “Okay, this card usually means this, but with this planet shining on it, it might also mean this.”
For instance, I pulled The Lovers card (which is Gemini, ruled by Mercury). Usually, it’s about choices, relationships, partnerships. But with the Mercury influence, I started thinking more about the communication aspect of those relationships, how important it is to be clear and honest.

It’s still a work in progress, for sure. I’m definitely no expert, but it’s been a really fun experiment. It opened up a whole new way of looking at the cards, and I feel like I’m getting a deeper understanding of them. I think I’ll keep messing around with this and see where it takes me!
