Okay, so I continued my exploration of I Ching divination today. I call this little project “iching 2” because, well, it’s the second day I’m really diving in.
Getting Started (Again)
Yesterday’s session was a bit clumsy. I fumbled with the coins, I kept losing my place in the book. Today, I decided to be a bit more organized. I grabbed a small notebook, found a quieter spot in the house, and made sure my three coins were easily accessible.
The Question
This time, instead of a general “what’s up with today?” question, I focused on a specific work project that’s been feeling a bit stuck. My question was simple: “What’s the best approach to move forward with Project X?”

The Coin Tosses
I took a few deep breaths, tried to clear my mind (easier said than done!), and started tossing the coins. I made sure to write down each result – heads or tails – in my notebook as I went. Six tosses, six lines. Here’s what I got, my raw results, no fancy terminology:
- Tails, Tails, Heads
- Heads, Heads, Heads
- Tails, Tails, Tails
- Heads, Tails, Heads
- Tails, Heads, Tails
- Heads, Heads, Tails
I then converted and got these:
- 7
- 6
- 8
- 7
- 8
- 9
Then find the first trigram 7,6,8 as the down trigram, 7 is Gen, keep the Mountain, 7,8,9 is Li, Fire.
So it is Hexagram 56, Traveling.
Figuring Out the Hexagram
The six is changing to 8, and 9 is changing to 7. So it is changing from 56 to 35, Jin.

Making Sense of It All
I spent a good chunk of time reading the descriptions of both hexagrams. Let me say, it’s not exactly straightforward! The language is very… poetic. But I tried to connect the general themes to my specific question about the project.
It seems to me that it shows that I may need to be careful about my steps to move forward, however, if I take care of those details, there will be progress, I should be optimistic.
I might need to break this down and tackle it piece by piece, rather than trying to solve everything at once, I just need to be careful and optimistic.
Next Steps
I’m definitely going to keep journaling my I Ching readings. I think it’s helping me to slow down and think about things from a different perspective. Whether or not it’s “accurate” in a predictive sense, it’s proving to be a useful tool for reflection. Tomorrow, I’ll try to apply some of the “small things” concept to the project and see what happens!
