So, I got this kinda random idea the other day. I was watching “The Last Dance” again (for, like, the millionth time, I know), and it got me thinking about the name “Jordan.” It’s such a strong, iconic name, and obviously, Michael Jordan made it HUGE. But I was curious – how popular was the name “Jordan” before MJ became a global superstar? I’m talking way back, like, when he was born in 1963.
First thing I did? Hit up the good old internet of course. I figured there had to be some sort of baby name database out there, right?
I started digging around, trying different search terms. I typed in stuff like “baby name popularity,” “historical name trends,” and even specifically “name popularity 1963.” It took a bit of scrolling, you know how it is, wading through tons of websites.

I finally found a few sites that looked promising. They had these interactive charts and tables where you could type in a name and see its popularity over time. Cool!
I typed in “Jordan” and set the year to 1963. I was ready to check this little curiosity of my and record this moment.
I took notes as I played with the data. I saw how the name’s popularity changed over the decades, especially after Jordan started dominating the NBA. It was pretty wild to see the jump!
