Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “iching 24” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a ride. I started off totally clueless, just poking around randomly.
My First Steps
First, I grabbed a copy of the I Ching. I didn’t even know where the hexagrams were, and I flipped through the book for a solid hour, totally lost. Then, I decided to actually read about how it works. You know, the whole coin-tossing, yarrow-stalks thing. I went with the coin method ’cause it seemed easier.
Getting Down to Business
- I found three coins – all the same, like the instructions said.
- I assigned heads as 3 and tails as 2. (Felt kinda arbitrary, but okay.)
- Then, I started flipping. Six times for each line, keeping track of the totals on a piece of paper. My hand started cramping, not gonna lie.
After all that flipping, I ended up with these numbers: 7, 8, 9, 6, 8, 7. I was like, “Great, now what?” I had to figure out how these numbers translated into the lines of the hexagram. I remember that odd number represent yang and even numbers yin.

Figuring Out the Lines
I learned that 7 is a young yang line, 8 is a young yin line, 9 is an old yang line (which changes), and 6 is an old yin line (which also changes). So, I drew out my hexagram, starting from the bottom:
- Solid line (7 – young yang)
- Broken line (8 – young yin)
- Solid line that changes to broken (9 – old yang)
- Broken line that changes to solid (6 – old yin)
- Broken line (8 – young yin)
- Solid line (7 – young yang)
Finding the Hexagram
I finally, figured out my first hexagram was number 24, Fu (Return). Because lines 3 and 4 were changing, I checked out the second hexagram, which was 2,Kun (receptive). But, My first one was * all, looking at that number 24.
The Reading (Finally!)
I looked up hexagram 24 in my book.

It talked about returning to the right path, and not to rush anything. It felt…surprisingly relevant to some stuff I’ve been going through. Then i check the lines 3 and * the second *’s a long reading.
My Takeaway
Honestly, the whole process was more involved than I expected. It took time, and a bit of head-scratching. But, it was kind of cool to go through this ancient ritual and see what came out of it. I’m not saying I’m suddenly a believer, but it definitely gave me something to think about. I’ll probably try it again, just to see if it keeps making sense.
