Okay, so I’ve been messing around with the I Ching lately, and I wanted to share my experience with hexagram 62, which is called “Small Preponderance” or sometimes “Minor Excess.” It’s all about, like, taking it easy and not pushing things too hard, you know?
My Little Experiment
First, I got my I Ching coins and my little notebook. I like to do this whole thing outside, on my porch, because it feels more, I dunno, connected? Peaceful?
So, I sat down, took a few deep breaths to clear my head, and then started thinking about my question. It wasn’t anything super specific, more like “What do I need to focus on right now?”

Then, I tossed the coins. Six times, you know, that’s how it works. Each time, I wrote down the result – whether it was heads or tails, and if it was a “moving” line or not. I’m still kinda new to this, so I have to double-check the meanings in my book.
- First toss: Heads, Heads, Tails (That’s a broken line, yang)
- Second toss: Tails, Tails, Tails (Solid line, moving yang)
- Third toss: Heads, Heads, Tails
- Forth toss: Heads, Heads, Tails
- Fifth toss:Tails, Tails,Tails
- Sixth toss: Heads, Heads, Tails
After all six tosses, I had my hexagram: 62. I looked it up, and it’s all about being cautious and not overdoing it. The image is of thunder above the mountain, so it’s like, a small rumble, not a huge storm. It’s telling me to pay attention to the details, be humble, and not try to force anything.
Making Sense of It All
I spent some time just thinking about what that might mean for me. It felt pretty accurate, actually. I’ve been feeling a little overwhelmed lately, trying to do too much at once. So, this was a good reminder to slow down and focus on the small steps.
The “moving” lines which is also called “changing” lines, add another layer of meaning.
I read about it online,it talks about not dwelling on the past, which is, you know, classic me. I tend to overthink everything!

So, basically, my little I Ching session was a good reminder to chill out and be patient. It’s not about huge leaps, but about taking small, careful steps. Which is, honestly, pretty good advice for life in general, right? I plan to keep this hexagram in mind over the next few days and see how it plays out.
