Okay, so I’ve been diving into this whole “animal totem” thing lately, and today was all about the rat. Honestly, I wasn’t super thrilled at first – rats, you know? But I’m trying to be open-minded about this spiritual journey stuff.
I started by, well, Googling. Just wanted to get a basic sense of what the rat symbolizes in different cultures. Seems like it’s a mixed bag – some see them as pests, obviously, but others associate them with intelligence, adaptability, and even prosperity. Made a note of that.
My Rat Meditation (Kind Of)
Next, I tried to, like, connect with the rat spirit. I sat down, closed my eyes, and tried to picture a rat. Not a gross sewer rat, but a, um, noble rat. It was… difficult. My mind kept wandering to dirty subways and cheese. Not exactly zen.

Instead of forcing it, I decided to just observe my surroundings. I live in a pretty old building, so it’s not uncommon to hear little… scurryings… in the walls. So I sat there, listening. Trying to pick out any sounds that might be my little rat friends.
I did hear something! A faint scratching. Could have been a rat, could have been a squirrel, could have been the pipes. But I chose to believe it was a rat. Sue me.
Action Steps (Maybe?)
The whole point of this totem thing, I think, is to embody the animal’s positive qualities. So, I tried to think like a rat. Resourceful, right? They can find food anywhere. So, I tackled that overflowing junk drawer in my kitchen. The one I’ve been avoiding for months. Found some old batteries, a missing earring, and a surprising amount of loose change. Baby steps, I guess.
I tried to embrace that rat cunning and that rat energy of mine.
Conclusion (For Now)
- Didn’t see any actual rats.
- Did hear some suspicious scratching.
- Cleaned out a drawer.
I’m not sure if I’m a “rat person” now, but I definitely have a new appreciation for their… tenacity. And hey, a clean drawer is a clean drawer. Maybe tomorrow I’ll try to be more “rat-like” in my work – find some hidden opportunities, be a little more… scrappy. We’ll see.
