Okay, so I’ve been feeling kinda… lost lately. Like, I’m wandering around without a real purpose, you know? So, I started looking into spirit animals, and the coyote kept popping up. I was like, “Coyote? Really?” But the more I read, the more it kinda resonated.
My Coyote Experiment
I decided to do a little experiment. I wasn’t going to go full-on shaman or anything, just… pay attention to coyote energy, see if anything clicked. I wanted to embrace my own inner trickster, my adaptability, my ability to, just maybe, find the humor in challenging times.
First, I watched a ton of videos. Documentaries, random clips, anything I could find. I wanted to get a feel for how coyotes actually move, how they interact with their environment. It’s one thing to read about it, another to see it.

Then, I started paying attention to my surroundings. I live in a semi-rural area, so we actually have coyotes around. I started listening for their howls at night, looking for tracks when I went hiking. I even saw one crossing the road one evening – super cool!
The big thing, though, was trying to shift my mindset. Instead of getting frustrated when things went wrong (which, let’s be honest, happens a lot), I tried to find the lesson, the hidden opportunity. Like, “Okay, this sucks, but what can I learn from it? How can I adapt?”
For instance, my car broke down in the middle of nowhere. My old reaction? Anger, frustration, probably some yelling. But the “coyote me” was like, “Alright, unexpected detour. Time to practice patience, call for help, and maybe appreciate the scenery I’d normally miss.” I even tried to tell the funny story about what happened to my friend.
I also tried to be more playful. Coyotes are known for their playful nature, and I realized I’d been taking myself way too seriously. I started joking around more, being a little more spontaneous, just trying to lighten up.
What I’ve Noticed
It’s not like I’ve suddenly transformed into a super-chill, always-resourceful person. But I have noticed some shifts.

- I’m a little less stressed. When things go sideways, I’m quicker to find the humor or the lesson.
- I’m feeling more resourceful. I’m thinking outside the box more, finding creative solutions to problems.
- I’m connecting with nature more. Just paying attention to the coyotes around me has made me feel more grounded.
I am more patient, and can embrace the random moments of life.
It’s an ongoing process, for sure. But I’m finding this whole “coyote spirit animal” thing to be surprisingly helpful. It’s like I’m giving myself permission to be a little more wild, a little more adaptable, and a little more… me.
