Okay, so the title “21 56” might not make much sense, but let me tell you about this little experiment I did today. It all started this morning when I was cleaning up some old files and I stumbled upon two numbers, 21 and 56 and it got me thinking, I wonder that there any relationship between these two numbers?
First,Let’s try to figure it out
I grabbed a pen and paper ,then I jotted them down.

- 21
- 56
I stared at them for a bit. Nothing jumped out immediately. I am not a math whiz, so I started with the basics. Let’s look at this:
Finding Common Factors
I decided to break each number down into its prime factors. I mean, I remembered doing this in school, like, a million years ago. It was a little fuzzy, but I started dividing.
For 21, that was easy:
- 21 / 3 = 7
so 21 is 3 multiplied 7.
Then for 56, it took a bit more work:

- 56/2=28
- 28/2=14
- 14/2=7
So 56 is like, 2 2 2 7. Or you could say, 2 to the power of 3, times 7.
The “Aha!” Moment
Then I saw it! Both numbers had a 7 in their prime factors. 21 has one 7, and 56 has one 7. That’s a common factor!
I thought that I can try to calculate the Greatest Common Divisor(GCD):
Then, I found the GCD of 21 and 56 is 7.
Then, I thought that I can try to calculate the Least Common Multiple(LCM):

The LCM is 168.
Putting It All Together
So, after all that fiddling around, I figured out a few things about 21 and 56:
GCD is 7 and LCM is 168.
It was a fun little mental exercise! Reminded me of those old school days, and it’s cool how numbers can connect in these hidden ways.
