So, I decided to try this thing called a “birthday tarot spread” for my big day. I’ve always been a bit curious about tarot, but I never really dove in headfirst, you know? Figured my birthday was as good a time as any to give it a shot.
First, I grabbed my tarot deck. It’s nothing fancy, just a standard Rider-Waite deck I picked up online a while back. I gave the cards a good shuffle, just like I’d seen in movies, trying to channel some kind of mystical energy or whatever.
Then, I started laying out the cards. For this birthday spread, I decided to do a simple 12-card layout, one for each month of the upcoming year. I just dealt them out in a circle, kind of like a clock.

- Card 1: This one’s supposed to represent the overall theme for the year ahead.
- Cards 2-12: Each of these represents a month, starting from my birthday month.
I flipped over the first card, and it was the “Strength” card. Okay, I can work with that, I thought. Maybe this year will be about finding my inner strength and overcoming challenges?
Then I went through the rest of the cards, one by one, I took my time with each card, looking at the pictures and thinking about what they might mean, looked up some simple meanings on my phone. Some were pretty obvious, like the “Ace of Cups” for a month that had a “new emotional beginning” vibe. Others were a bit more cryptic.
I’m not gonna lie, some of the cards had me scratching my head. Like, what’s the deal with “The Hanged Man”? It looked kind of ominous, but when I looked it up it said that was about “pause, surrender, new perspective”. But I jotted down some notes about each card, trying to make sense of it all. And after reading that card, I thought this year I should try to look at things from different angles.
My Initial Thoughts
Honestly, the whole thing was kind of fun. It’s like a little self-reflection exercise, but with pretty pictures. I don’t know if I’m a total tarot believer now, but it definitely gave me some food for thought. I’m excited to see if any of these card predictions actually come true over the next year. I guess only time will tell. I’ll keep you guys posted.
I decided to start a little tarot journal to keep track of my readings and see how they relate to what’s happening in my life. I’m thinking of doing another spread on New Year’s Eve, just to see what the cards have to say about the year ahead. We’ll see how it goes!

It’s all about enjoying the journey and seeing what the universe might have in store, right? Even if I don’t fully grasp the meaning of every card, it’s a cool way to connect with myself and reflect on where I’m headed.
