Okay, here’s my blog post about my experience with the animal totem woodpecker:
So, I’ve been feeling kinda stuck lately, you know? Like, I was banging my head against the wall trying to get some projects moving, but nothing was happening. A friend of mine, she’s really into this spiritual stuff, suggested looking into animal totems. I was like, “Sure, why not?” I’m open to anything at this point.
She told me to just, like, meditate and see what animal comes to mind. I closed my eyes, tried to clear my head (which is harder than it sounds!), and after a while, I kept seeing a woodpecker. Just, like, bam bam bam on a tree. I figured, okay, that’s gotta be something, right?

My Woodpecker Journey
I did some digging, you know, Googled “woodpecker animal totem” and stuff. Turns out, it’s all about persistence, determination, and, get this, opportunity. It’s like, the woodpecker doesn’t just randomly peck; it listens for the hollow sound of where the bugs are. It’s smart about it.
That really hit me. I realized I had been kinda flailing around, not really focusing my energy. So, I started trying to channel my inner woodpecker. Here’s what I did:
- I made a list. A real, physical list of all the things I needed to do, big and small. It was kinda scary seeing it all written out, but also, like, motivating.
- I picked one thing. Just one. And I told myself I wasn’t allowed to work on anything else until that one thing was done. It was tough, ’cause I’m a total multi-tasker, but I stuck with it.
- I broke it down. That one thing still felt huge, so I broke it down into smaller steps. Like, instead of “finish project,” it was “write introduction,” then “research chapter 1,” and so on. Baby steps, people!
- I kept pecking away. Every day, I did something, even if it was just for 15 minutes. Some days I got a lot done, some days not so much, but I kept at it.
And you know what? It’s actually working! I’m making progress. It’s slow, for sure, but it’s real progress. I’m feeling more focused, more in control. I even found a new opportunity that I totally would have missed if I hadn’t been paying attention, listening for that “hollow sound,” you know?
It’s not magic, obviously. But thinking about the woodpecker, about its persistence and its smart approach, it’s helped me to change my own approach. I’m still a work in progress, always, but I’m feeling a lot more optimistic than I was a few weeks ago. So, yeah, that’s my woodpecker story. Maybe it’ll help you too. Maybe, give it a try find that animal inside of you!
