Okay, so I got thinking about starfish the other day. Not sure why, just popped into my head. Decided I’d actually dig into it a bit, see what the whole deal was with their symbolism. You know, what people think they mean.
My Little Investigation Process
First thing I did was just sit down and think about what I knew. Starfish, right? Live in the ocean, got five arms usually, kinda tough. Look pretty cool. That was my starting point, pretty basic stuff.
Then, I went online. Didn’t go anywhere fancy, just typed stuff like “starfish meaning” or “what do starfish symbolize” into the search bar. Got a whole bunch of results, obviously. Had to sift through quite a bit.

Sorting Through the Noise
Lots of sites said similar things. A big one was about regeneration and healing. Makes sense, right? They can regrow their arms if they lose one. I found that pretty interesting. It’s like a built-in comeback story.
Saw some stuff about them being symbols of guidance or intuition too. Maybe ’cause they navigate the sea floor? Not sure about the logic there, but it came up a few times. Also saw words like sensitivity, which was a bit surprising considering how rugged they look.
- Checked a few different websites to see if they agreed.
- Made some quick notes on a pad, just jotting down the common ideas.
- Tried to ignore the really weird interpretations, focused on the main themes.
Connecting it Back
After reading up, I just kinda reflected on it. I grabbed a piece of paper and just started doodling some starfish shapes. Wasn’t trying to make great art or anything, just sketching while thinking about those ideas – healing, finding your way, being sensitive but strong.
It wasn’t some massive project. Just me, spending an hour or so, looking into something that caught my interest. Found it cool how this sea creature carries all these ideas. Made me look at them a bit differently next time I saw a picture or documentary.

So yeah, that was my little journey into starfish symbolism. Started with a random thought, did some basic looking around, and ended up with a bit more appreciation for the five-armed guys. Simple as that.
