Okay, so I dove into a little tarot reading for myself yesterday, and I thought I’d share how it went down. Specifically, I wanted to know about something pretty heavy on my mind, and the Nine of Swords popped up. Talk about a card that can make you sweat a little!
First off, I always start by shuffling the deck, focusing on the question I have. Yesterday, it was basically a “yes or no” situation about whether a particular worry of mine would actually come to pass. I really tried to clear my head, you know? No distractions, just me and the cards.
Then, I pulled a single card – simple, direct. And there it was: the Nine of Swords. Upright. Now, anyone who knows anything about tarot knows this card is usually associated with anxiety, fear, nightmares… basically, a whole lot of mental anguish. I mean, the imagery alone is enough to give you pause.

So, what does it mean for a “yes or no” question? Well, generally speaking, the Nine of Swords is considered a big ol’ “NO.” It screams negativity, suggesting that the thing I’m worried about is likely not going to turn out the way I fear. But I don’t take anything at face value, especially with tarot.
I decided to pull two more cards for clarification. Gotta get the full picture, right? I shuffled again, focusing on “What’s the real story here?” and “What can I do?” The first card I pulled was the The Sun! I almost laughed. The second card I pulled was the Eight of Cups reversed.
The Sun card being here totally shifts the vibe. It’s all about joy, success, and positive outcomes. In my mind, it definitely softens the blow of the Nine of Swords. And the Eight of Cups reversed is telling me that I should let go off my past or maybe I have fear of letting go off my past. I interpreted as yes, the situation is not going to be as bad as I think, and maybe even turn out really great. The Two of Pentacles just asks me to be flexible, and go with the flow, instead of panicking about the worst case scenario.
So, in the end, while the Nine of Swords initially freaked me out, the clarification cards gave me a much more optimistic outlook. I walked away feeling a lot more at peace. Tarot’s wild, man. It’s not about predicting the future, but more about understanding the energies around you and making better choices.
