Okay, so today I wanna share my experience with diving into the whole “monkey animal totem” thing. It was kinda random how I even got started, but honestly, it’s been a pretty interesting journey.
It all started when I was scrolling through some weird forum about spirituality (don’t judge!). I saw someone mention animal totems, and the monkey kept popping up in the thread. I’m not usually one for this kinda stuff, but I was feeling kinda stuck in a rut, so I thought, “Why not?”
First thing I did was hit up Google. I mean, where else would you start, right? I started searching for “monkey animal totem meaning”. What I found was a mixed bag. Some sites talked about monkeys representing playfulness, intelligence, and curiosity. Others focused on the trickster aspect, kinda like being mischievous or unpredictable.

I decided to focus on the positive stuff! I mean, who needs more trickster energy in their life? I wanted to tap into the playfulness and intelligence.
So, I started trying to incorporate those qualities into my daily life. This is where things got a little goofy. I tried to be more spontaneous – said “yes” to stuff I’d normally say “no” to. One time, a friend asked me to go to a karaoke night (which I usually avoid like the plague), and I just went for it. I was terrible, but it was actually kinda fun!
Then I started thinking about the intelligence aspect. I decided to learn something new. Always wanted to play the ukulele, so I grabbed one online and started watching YouTube tutorials. I’m still pretty bad, but it’s been a cool way to challenge myself.
Here’s where I started keeping a record. I bought this cheap notebook and started writing down my experiences. I’d jot down what I did each day, how I felt, and how it connected to the “monkey” energy I was trying to embody.
- Day 1: Went to karaoke. Felt awkward at first, but ended up laughing a lot. Maybe embracing the playful side isn’t so bad.
- Day 3: Ukulele lesson. Fingers hurt! But I learned a basic chord. Progress!
- Day 7: Faced a problem at work with a new perspective and managed to find a creative solution. Maybe the monkey’s intelligence is rubbing off?
It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, though. There were days when I felt like a complete idiot, trying to act all playful and curious. It felt forced. But I kept at it.

After a few weeks, something shifted. I started to feel less self-conscious and more comfortable just being myself. I wasn’t trying to be a monkey, but I was drawing on those qualities of playfulness and intelligence when I needed them.
For example, I’m usually super serious during meetings at work, but one day, I cracked a joke that actually landed well. It lightened the mood and helped us brainstorm some new ideas. It felt natural, not forced.
The notebook helped a lot. Looking back at my entries, I could see how my mindset was changing. I was becoming more open to new experiences and less afraid to look silly.
I’m not gonna lie, I still have no idea if animal totems are “real” in some mystical sense. But for me, exploring the monkey archetype was a useful way to break out of my routine and embrace some different aspects of myself.
So, yeah, that’s my monkey animal totem journey in a nutshell. It was a little weird, a little cheesy, but ultimately, kinda helpful. Maybe I’ll try another animal next!
