Okay, so today I wanna talk about something I’ve been messing around with – I Ching 38. Yeah, the ancient Chinese divination thing. I know, sounds kinda out there, but hear me out.
It all started last week. I was feeling kinda stuck, you know? Just blah. Couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do next with a project I was working on. I saw this documentary about ancient philosophies and the I Ching popped up. Figured, “Why not?” Worth a shot, right?
First thing I did was grab a copy of the I Ching. There are tons online, but I ended up downloading one as a PDF. I wanted something I could highlight and make notes on. Next, I learned the coin method. Three coins, toss ’em six times, record the results as yin or yang lines. It’s surprisingly simple once you get the hang of it.

So, I sat down with my coins, cleared my head (tried to, anyway – my dog kept barking), and focused on my question about the project. Tossing, recording, tossing, recording… It took a while, but finally, I got my hexagram: 38, Opposition.
Now comes the fun part: interpreting it. The I Ching is all about symbolism, so I read up on Hexagram 38. It’s about differences, misunderstandings, feeling isolated. Honestly, it hit pretty close to home. The project felt like I was forcing something that wasn’t working, and the description about seeing things differently resonated with me.
The reading also gave me some advice: try to see things from a different perspective, find common ground, and be patient. Easier said than done, right? But I took it to heart. I stepped back from the project for a couple of days. I chatted with a buddy who knows his stuff and got a fresh perspective.
And you know what? It helped. I realized I was so focused on one aspect that I was missing the bigger picture. The I Ching didn’t magically solve my problems, but it did push me to think differently. It was like a weird, ancient form of brainstorming.
I wouldn’t say I’m a convert or anything, but I’m definitely gonna keep messing with it. It’s a cool way to get some perspective when you’re feeling lost. Plus, tossing coins is kinda fun!

Here’s a quick recap of what I did:
- Downloaded an I Ching PDF
- Learned the coin tossing method
- Focused on my question and tossed the coins
- Got Hexagram 38, Opposition
- Read the interpretation and thought about how it applied to my situation
- Took the advice and got a fresh perspective
It might sound crazy, but give it a shot sometime. You never know what you might discover.
