Okay, so I’ve been diving into this whole Japanese horoscope thing, and let me tell you, it’s way more involved than I initially thought. I started out just wanting to know my sign, you know, like a quick “oh, I’m a Rat” kind of deal. But it got pretty deep, pretty fast.
First, I dug around online for a basic overview. It’s called the “Junishi,” which I think translates to something like “twelve branches”. I Quickly found some simple articles on it.
- Rat
- Ox
- Tiger
- Rabbit
- Dragon
- Snake
- Horse
- Goat (or Sheep)
- Monkey
- Rooster
- Dog
- Pig (or Boar)
So, I figured out I’m a Dragon, Which sounds pretty cool,I always thought.I started to match some of the traits with my personality,I gotta admit it fits me.

Then, it got more complex. I realized it’s not just about the animal. There’s also an element cycle that goes along with it: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. My birth year makes me an Earth Dragon. I spent some time reading up on what that’s supposed to mean. Apparently, Earth Dragons are more grounded and practical than other Dragons. It all felt a little… extra, but I was already in too deep.
Next, I tried to find some charts that would combine the animal and the * took some digging but found a few charts.I printed out one of the charts, just so I could have it in front of me and I have to admit, it’s still a little confusing.
My Takeaways
I managed to map out my immediate family’s signs and elements.I was so excited about * was a little interesting to see how they supposedly interact. I’m still not 100% sure I believe all of *’s kinda fun to think about.
Honestly, I’m still processing all this. I definitely learned a lot more about the Japanese zodiac than I expected to. I think I’ll keep looking into it, maybe see if there are any yearly predictions or anything like that. It’s all a bit of a rabbit hole, but a pretty interesting one!
