Okay, so today I messed around with I Ching, specifically hexagram 22. I’ve been curious about this whole I Ching thing for a while, and I finally decided to give it a shot.
First, I had to figure out how to actually do a reading. I remember seeing those coin tosses in movies, so I went with that. Grabbed three coins – just regular quarters – and started flipping.
Each coin flip gives you a line, either yin or yang. Heads was yang (a solid line), tails was yin (a broken line). You do this six times to build the hexagram from the bottom up. It felt kinda weird at first, all this ritualistic coin flipping. But, you know, I got into it.

- First flip: Heads (Yang)
- Second flip: Tails (Yin)
- Third flip: Heads (Yang)
- Fourth flip: Tails (Yin)
- Fifth flip: Tails (Yin)
- Sixth flip: Heads (Yang)
I carefully noted down each flip, drawing the lines as I went. Yang is a solid line, Yin is a broken line with a space in the middle. End up with this combination of lines.
So in the I Ching, that sequence that has the image of two solid, then a broken, another, solid and two broken. Turns out its 22.
Then came the hard part – figuring out what it all means. I searched a bit, read, see some key words, like, “Grace,” “Adorning,” “Superficiality.” Made me think about how I’ve been presenting myself lately, maybe focusing too much on appearances.
I did try to understand and search for more detail, read a couple of different interpretations online. Some were super dense and philosophical, others were more straightforward.

Honestly, I’m still processing it. It’s not like a fortune cookie with a clear-cut answer. It’s more like… food for thought. Made me think about balancing my inner and outer self, not just going for the flashy stuff. It was a cool little exercise, and definitely something I’ll try again. I even feel like recording my thoughts in a journal to see if it helps me understand any better down the road. Maybe keep track of the hexagrams and see if any patterns emerge. We’ll see!
