Okay, so, like, I’ve been seeing 171 everywhere lately. On clocks, license plates, receipts… you name it. It was starting to freak me out a little, so I decided to do something about it.
My 171 Experiment
First, I jotted down every time I saw 171. Just in a little notebook I carry around. I wanted to see if there was any kind of pattern, or if it was just totally random.
- Day 1: Saw it three times. On a microwave, a bus number, and in a phone number I was dialing.
- Day 2: Five times! This was getting weird. It was on a price tag, twice on different clocks, on a page number in a book, and on a building address.
- Day 3: Only twice, but one of them was super specific. It was the exact amount of money left on a gift card I had.
After a few days of this, I started to feel a little less anxious and a bit more… curious. I figured, okay, maybe there’s something to this. Maybe it’s not just coincidence.

So I decided to be more proactive. Instead of just noticing 171, I tried to invite it into my day. Sounds crazy, I know, but hear me out.
I started small. For example, if I was reading, I’d intentionally flip to page 171. Or if I was cooking, I’d set the timer for 1 minute and 71 seconds (which is, like, 2 minutes and 11 seconds, but whatever).
Honestly? It felt kind of silly at first. But then something interesting happened. By focusing on 171, I started to feel more… present. Like I was paying more attention to the little details of my day. And that, in itself, felt pretty good.
I’m still not sure what 171 “means,” if anything. But this whole thing has taught me to be more open to the unexpected, and to find the interesting in the everyday. And that’s a pretty cool takeaway, even if it all started with a number that kept popping up.
I kept doing my 171, even when I don’t see it as often. It’s a reminder to stay present.

So, that’s my 171 story. It’s probably not what you expected, but it’s been a real, and surprisingly positive, experience for me.
