Okay, so I’ve been messing around with circles lately, trying to understand their symbolism a bit better. It’s something that’s always been in the back of my mind, you know? Circles are everywhere, but I never really thought about them.
First, I started by just looking around. I mean, really looking. I noticed circles in the obvious places: clock faces, plates, wheels on cars… But then I started seeing them in less obvious places too, like the pupils of my eyes, the way a drop of water spreads out on a surface, even the shape of a curled-up cat.
Then I grabbed a notebook and a pen, and, outdoors,I began sketching every circle I could find. Seriously, everything. I drew the full moon, the ripples in a pond after I threw a stone, the rings of a tree stump I found in the woods. My notebook filled up pretty quickly with all sorts of wonky, imperfect circles.

Afterward, I took some time to just free-associate. What did circles make me feel? What ideas popped into my head? I jotted down words like “wholeness,” “infinity,” “cycles,” “protection,” and “unity.” It was a bit of a brain dump, really, just letting whatever came to mind flow onto the paper.
My Little Circle Experiments
- Drawing: I used a compass to draw perfect circles, then I tried freehanding them. The difference was interesting! The compass ones felt precise and controlled, while the freehand ones had more… personality, I guess.
- Movement:I spinned around in a circle, I rolled a ball across the floor, I even tried walking in a large circle in my backyard. It sounds silly, but it helped me feel the shape in a different way.
- Meditation: Yep, I even tried meditating on a circle! I just focused on a circular image in my mind and let my thoughts drift. I have to be honest, it was kinda calming.
Finally,I realized that these practices, circles show up in a ton of different ways, and they can mean different things to different people. But for me, right now, they’re mostly about feeling connected to, well, everything. It’s a bit cheesy, I know, but that’s where I’m at with it.
