Okay, so today I decided to mess around with I Ching, specifically hexagram 23. It’s called “Splitting Apart” or “Stripping” – sounds kinda ominous, right?
First, I grabbed my three coins. I’ve got these old Chinese coins I use, but honestly, any coins will do. The whole point is to have a heads and a tails side.
I started by clearing my mind a bit. Just took a few deep breaths and tried to focus on, well, nothing in particular. I didn’t have a specific question this time, more like a general “what’s up with today?” vibe.

The Coin Tosses
Then, I tossed the coins. Six times. Each toss gives you a line, and you build the hexagram from the bottom up. Here’s how my tosses went:
- Toss 1: Two heads, one tail. That’s a broken line (Yin).
- Toss 2: Same thing, two heads, one tail. Another broken line.
- Toss 3: All tails! That’s a moving broken line. We marked those.
- Toss 4: Two tails, one head. Solid line (Yang).
- Toss 5: Two tails, one head. Another solid line.
- Toss 6: All heads. A moving solid line.
So, I drew it all out. Five broken lines at the bottom, and a solid line on top. Boom, Hexagram 23.
Looking It Up
I’ve got this I Ching book. It’s pretty old. There’s tons of interpretations. For Hexagram 23, it was talking about a time of decay, things falling apart, and advising against taking any big actions. Like, seriously, don’t start anything new. It also mentioned being cautious and staying low-key.
Because the third and sixth line is moving. I need get the Hexagram 4.
- Toss 1: Two heads, one tail. That’s a broken line (Yin).
- Toss 2: Same thing, two heads, one tail. Another broken line.
- Toss 3: All heads! That’s a moving solid line.
- Toss 4: Two tails, one head. Solid line (Yang).
- Toss 5: Two tails, one head. Another solid line.
- Toss 6: All tails. A moving broken line.
Then I looked up hexagram 4. It talking about being immature and inexperienced, don’t be too pushy, and asking for help is not a bad thing!

My Takeaway
Honestly, it felt relevant. I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed lately, like things are piling up. The I Ching seemed to be saying, “Chill out, don’t force anything, and maybe get rid of some clutter.” It also seemed to be saying, “Don’t act rashly, You’re inexperienced, and don’t be too pushy.”
So, that’s what I’m doing. Taking it easy today, focusing on small tasks, and not making any major decisions. We’ll see how the rest of the day goes!
