Okay, so last night I decided to mess around with that AI image generator, Midjourney. I’ve been seeing all these crazy cool pictures people are making, and I wanted to give it a shot. My idea? Something simple: “dreaming about a church.” I figured it’d be an interesting starting point.
First, I logged into Discord – that’s where Midjourney lives. It’s kinda weird, not gonna lie, doing all this through a chat app. Anyway, I found the Midjourney bot and joined one of the “newbie” channels. These are basically rooms where everyone’s throwing in their prompts.
Then came the hard part: actually writing the prompt. I typed in /imagine dreaming about a church
. Super basic, I know. I hit enter and… waited. The bot started doing its thing, showing these blurry squares that slowly started to take shape.

- It felt like forever, but it was probably only a minute or two.
- The first results were… okay. Kinda generic, lots of stained glass and tall spires. Not very “dreamy,” though.
So, I tried again. This time, I got a little more specific. I added some words like “surreal,” “misty,” and “glowing.” I think I even threw in “ethereal” for good measure. I typed /imagine dreaming about a church, surreal, misty, glowing, ethereal
.
This time, the images were way cooler! There was one with a church floating in the clouds, all soft and hazy. Another one had the church underwater, with rays of light shining down. Much more like what I was imagining.
Tweaking and Refining
I spent the next hour or so just playing around with different variations. Midjourney lets you “upscale” images you like (make them bigger and more detailed) and create variations on specific ones. I clicked on the “U” buttons under my favorites to upscale them, and played with the “V” buttons to see different versions.
I learned that adding things like “photorealistic” or “cinematic” could really change the style. Also, specifying an aspect ratio (like ” –ar 16:9″ for a widescreen image) helped a lot.
Honestly, it was pretty addictive! It’s like having your own personal artist who can instantly bring your weirdest ideas to life. I ended up with a bunch of images I really liked, all from that simple starting point of “dreaming about a church.”

Will use it again, it’s very fun.
