Okay, here’s my blog post about my “snake as totem” project, written in a casual, conversational style, with simple HTML formatting:
So, I got this kinda weird idea the other day. I’ve been seeing a lot of snake imagery lately – in dreams, in art, even just random doodles I’ve been making. It felt… significant, you know? Like the universe was trying to tell me something. I’m not usually one for this kind of woo-woo stuff, but I decided to lean into it. I decided to make the snake my personal totem for a while, and see what happened.
Getting Started
First thing I did was just, like, look at snakes. I mean, really look at them. I watched a bunch of nature documentaries – those slow-motion shots of them striking are mesmerizing! I also spent a good chunk of time just scrolling through pictures online. I wanted to get a feel for their movement, their energy, the way they inhabit their space.

Then came the fun part – trying to capture that essence in my own way. I’m no artist, but I do enjoy messing around with different materials.
The Process
- Clay: My first attempt was with some air-dry clay. I figured I could sculpt a little snake figure, something I could keep on my desk. It… did not go well. Let’s just say my snake looked more like a lumpy worm.
- Wire: Next, I tried bending some wire into a snake shape. This was a bit better! I liked the way the wire could be twisted and contorted, kind of mimicking the snake’s sinuous body. I even added some beads for eyes. It was still pretty rough, but it had a certain… charm?
- Drawing: I’m terrible at drawing, but I gave it a shot anyway. I filled a whole sketchbook page with quick, messy snake sketches. I focused on trying to capture their movement, the way they coil and uncoil. It was surprisingly meditative.
- Digital: I use some basic software, create a snake image and modify the color, added some blackgroud. It looks good.
The Takeaway
Okay, so I haven’t had any profound spiritual revelations yet. But the whole process was actually really cool. Focusing on the snake, trying to understand its essence, it made me feel… calmer, more grounded. Like I was tapping into something ancient and primal.
I’m still keeping the wire snake on my desk. It’s a good reminder to stay flexible, to adapt to changing circumstances, and to, you know, just go with the flow. Maybe there’s something to this whole totem thing after all. I guess I used to think all is fake before I start and did the research, hah?
