Okay, so today I messed around with some numbers, specifically 55 and 37. My goal? I wanted to see how many times 37 could fit into 55, and what’s left over. It’s like, if you have 55 candies and you want to give 37 to each friend, how many friends can you give to, and how many candies you’d have for yourself at the end.
First, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. I’m a very old-school person. I could have used a calculator, or some fancy app, but I felt like doing it the old-fashioned way. I like to see things visually.
So, I started with the basics. I knew that 37 goes into 55 only once, because 37 times 2 is 74, which is way bigger than 55. So, 1 is our first number.

- Wrote down 55.
- Wrote down 37 under it.
- Drew a line like we do in school.
Then I did the subtraction. I subtracted 37 from 55.
- 55 – 37 =18.
I did it with borrow and got 18.
So, there you have it! 37 fits into 55 just one time, and you’re left with 18.
It wasn’t a big project or anything, just a little exercise to keep my brain ticking. Sometimes it’s fun to go back to the basics and do things by hand. Makes you appreciate the simple things, you know?
