Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with my tarot deck and try to get a simple “yes” or “no” answer to a question I had. I decided to focus on the 3 of Swords card, since I know it can be a pretty intense card, and see what it had to say.
First, I grounded myself. I took a few deep breaths, lit a candle, and just tried to get my head in the right space. I shuffled my deck a few times while thinking about my question. It’s something I’ve been going back and forth on, so I really wanted some clarity. I didn’t want to just pull one card randomly, though. I wanted to be intentional about it.
My Approach
So, here’s what I did:

- I shuffled the deck thoroughly, like I said.
- Then, instead of just drawing from the top, I fanned the cards out face down on the table.
- I hovered my hand over the cards, just kind of letting my intuition guide me.
- When I felt a pull, I flipped that card over. It wasn’t the 3 of Swords, so I put to aside.
- I repeat the process above until I got 3 of Swords.
I went through the cards and that first card wasn’t the 3 of Swords. I kept going, setting aside any card until at last, I flipped over the 3 of Swords.
Now, based on how i understood, the 3 of Swords is generally interpreted as a “no.” It’s all about heartbreak, pain, and difficult truths. It’s not exactly the most positive card in the deck, you know?
Since this card show up, I took it as a pretty strong “no” to my question. It felt like the cards were telling me that this path might lead to some heartache or disappointment. It wasn’t what I wanted to see, honestly, but sometimes the cards tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear, right?
So, I’m taking this as a sign to re-evaluate things. Maybe I need to adjust my expectations, or maybe I need to consider a completely different approach. It’s a bit of a bummer, but it’s also helpful to have this kind of guidance, even if it’s not the answer I was hoping for.
