Okay, so I’ve been messing around with the I Ching lately, and today I decided to focus on Hexagram 21, “Biting Through.” It sounded intense, and honestly, it kind of was.
My “Biting Through” Experiment
First, I grabbed my I Ching book and read up on Hexagram 21. It’s all about obstacles and overcoming them, like literally biting through something tough. There’s also this whole legal aspect to it, about justice and resolving disputes. I wasn’t dealing with any legal stuff, thankfully, but I definitely had some things I needed to push through.
I decided to focus on a project I’ve been putting off – re-organizing all my digital files. Sounds boring, I know, but it’s been this huge weight hanging over me. Folders everywhere, random documents, total chaos.

So, I sat down, opened my laptop, and just…started. I didn’t overthink it. I just began making new folders, dragging and dropping files, deleting old stuff I didn’t need. It was like, that’s it, there is no other way to do this, I just decided to bite my teeth and finish this.
- Created main category folders (Work, Personal, Finances, etc.).
- Sorted everything into those folders.
- Deleted duplicates and old, irrelevant files.
- Created subfolders within the main categories for more organization.
It took a few hours, but I kept going. There were moments I wanted to give up, get distracted, do something else. But I kept thinking about “biting through” – that image really helped. I imagined myself chewing through the digital clutter, getting to the other side.
Finally, I was done. My digital desktop was CLEAN. My files were organized. I felt this huge sense of relief, like I’d actually accomplished something significant. It wasn’t just about the files; it was about overcoming that mental block, that procrastination.
So, yeah, Hexagram 21. It’s not just some ancient, mystical thing. It’s a pretty good metaphor for tackling those tough tasks we all have to face. Sometimes, you just gotta bite through it. It feels that I can apply the Hexagram 21 to other parts in my life. It’s amazing!
