Okay, so today, I dug into “hexagram 30.” It’s from this old Chinese thing called the I Ching, or Book of Changes. I wanted to see what this particular hexagram, number 30, was all about. This one’s called “Li,” and it’s all about fire and clarity, they say.
First, I looked it up. Found some stuff about it online. It’s made up of two trigrams, both fire. So, double fire. Seems intense, right? I was thinking, maybe it’s about passion, energy, that sort of thing.
- I grabbed a notebook and started jotting down keywords I found: “illumination,” “clarity,” “dependence,” and “brilliance.”
- Wrote down some notes about the image, too. The image associated with hexagram 30 is about fire clinging to wood, and about keeping a cow as a symbol of docility.
Then, I tried to connect it to my own life. Where do I need more clarity? Where am I maybe too attached to something? I thought about my job, my relationships, my goals. You know, the usual stuff.

I spent a good chunk of time just sitting with it. Closed my eyes, breathed deep, and tried to let the ideas just sink in. Nothing fancy, just some quiet time to reflect.
I even doodled a bit. Drew some flames, tried to visualize what “clinging” fire might look like. It was kind of fun, actually. Helped me to think about how I can be more aware of what I’m clinging to in my own life, and whether that’s good or bad.
After that, I went back to the text. Read it a few more times. It’s interesting how you can find something new each time you read something, even if it’s just a few lines. They say hexagram 30 says that a person should “cultivate clarity within,” and “remain attached to what is right.” I think this is pretty good advice.
So, what did I get out of all this? Well, I think I’ve got a better sense of where I need to focus my energy. It was a good reminder to take things slow, to make sure that I am aware of what I am holding on to, and to appreciate the people who support me. That’s the big takeaway, I guess. It was a pretty cool experiment. I think I’ll try another hexagram tomorrow.
