Okay, so I’ve been messing around with tarot cards lately, just for fun, you know? And I kept getting the 4 of Pentacles in “yes or no” readings. It was driving me nuts! So, I decided to do a deep dive and really figure out what this card means in a quick, simple question.
First, I pulled out my trusty Rider-Waite deck. I always start there. I shuffled the cards, really focused on a simple “yes or no” question, like “Will I get that freelance gig?” Then, I drew a single card.
My Experiment Begins…
- Attempt 1: Question: “Will I finish this blog post today?” Drew: 4 of Pentacles. My initial thought? “Ugh, probably not.” Because, you know, the card often represents holding on, being blocked, maybe even stubborn.
- Attempt 2: Question: “Should I order pizza tonight?” (Important stuff, right?) Drew: 4 of Pentacles. Again! This time, I interpreted it as, “Hold on to your money, don’t spend it.” So, maybe a “no”?
- Attempt 3: Question: “Will my friend like the gift I got her?” Drew: … you guessed it, 4 of Pentacles. This one felt trickier. I thought, maybe it means I’m too attached to the gift, worried about her reaction? Still leaning towards a “no,” or at least a “not so straightforward yes.”
What I’ve Noticed
It felt like the 4 of Pentacles was almost always a “no” or at least a “maybe, but with conditions” kind of answer. I always try to use the cards intutively, and this is what I was getting.

So, after these little experiments, my personal take is this: 4 of Pentacles in a “yes or no” reading? It usually indicates a “no,” or at the very least, a strong “hold on” or “rethink this.” It’s about being guarded, possessive, maybe even blocked in some way. It’s not an outright, enthusiastic “yes,” that’s for sure.
I will for sure continue to work with this card with this type of reading and see if I still feel the same. I hope my little process walk through was fun to follow along with!
